Chesterfield Conference
A belated Thank You to Sue Ball, George and Rod for their organisation of the Chesterfield Conference – another very successful day from all reports. With the backgrounds to both the present work on the Keith Ayling Lock and the proposed Central Line West Route through Killamarsh outlined, two extremely interesting visits then took place. One to the Killamarsh Masterplan Sites – where there is a possibility of an exciting 21st Century Boat Lift, designed by Master’s Engineering degree students from Nottingham Trent University, coming to fruition. The second site visit was to the Staveley Waterside, the Trans Pennine Bridge and the Keith Ayling Lock construction site. This lock is due to be completed by September, this year, and will have fibre reinforced polymer gates made from recycled wind turbine blades costing £250k, with a 100 year expected life span. Makes you think?
