| 2019 – 2021 |
Following Christine Hayes’ retirement as Chair of the NCA in October 2018, and the ensuing Covid lockdown, no meetings were held for a couple of years. In late 2021, a team was formed of Chris Madge, George Rogers, Ivan Cane, Chris and Steve Hayes plus Alison Smedley and Jenny Morris of the IWA, with the purpose of getting the NCA up and running again. The IWA ladies circulated all restoration societies, using their up-to-date database, to re-establish the NCA’s contact list. As the Southern CA had folded many years previously, societies south of Birmingham were also invited. Chris Madge offered the Derby & Sandiacre Canal Trust to host the first new meeting on Sunday, February 20th at Draycott Cottages on the Derby Canal, with George Rogers taking up the baton on Sunday, October 9th, with the Chesterfield Canal Society. Ivan Cane took on the post of Chair to organise the administration of the meetings and lead the day’s events. |
